Hyderabad May 31 Aban Power Company Ltd, a natural gas-based power project of the Lanco Group located in Tamil Nadu, has been registered as CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) project with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The company maintained that Aban is the first natural gas-based unit worldwide to be registered as CDM Project and will generate about 1.8 million CERs (Certified Emission Reductions) over a period of 10 years.

The 120 MW gas-based Combined Cycle Power Plant is located at Karuppur village in Tanjore district, Tamil Nadu.

Lanco's biomass projects and four hydro projects have already been registered as CDM projects generating 1,45,000 CERs per annum. With the addition of Aban, Lanco will generate approximately 3.3 lakh CERs per annum.

Lanco is also in the process of registering its other renewable energy projects.
