Co-operatives States - Andhra Pradesh Girijan Co-op Corp urged to compete with private cos Our Bureau
Mr D. Redya Nayak
Visakhapatnam, May 29 The Girijan Co-operative Corporation here should create a brand image for its products to compete aggressively with the private companies and make its presence felt in the market, the Minister for Tribal Welfare, Mr D. Redya Nayak, has said.
Review meet
At a review meeting in the GCC conference hall here, the Minister said certain products sold by the GCC, such as honey, could make an impact in the market, but that was not sufficient. "Rajma, for instance, has a great demand in the market and the GCC should assist the tribal farmers in growing the crop and push the product in the super bazars and urban markets. These products should also be made available at the rythu bazars in special stalls," he said. He promised all help from the Government side and added that the State Government would spend Rs 480 crore during the current financial year under the remote and interior area development scheme during the current financial year. "A meeting will be held in Hyderabad soon to finalise an action plan with an outlay of Rs 300 crore exclusively for providing road connectivity to remote, interior areas inhabited by Girijans. "This will link the Girijans to the mainstream of the society and the GCC on its part should use the opportunity to bring and sell forest produce to the plains to the benefit of the Girijans. Private middlemen should not grab the opportunity," he said. He cautioned officials that they should be on the alert before the arrival of monsoon as two years ago, several Girijans died in the agency tracts of Visakhapatnam district of viral fevers in the rainy season.
