Reliance Communications cuts roaming rates

Archana Venkat

Chennai May 22

Reliance Communications on Tuesday slashed its roaming rates by about 70 per cent and will charge calls between 40 paise and Rs 1.20 a minute depending on the scheme chosen. This is the second time the company has slashed roaming rates this year, the first being in February.

When asked how this would impact revenues, Mr S.P. Shukla said it would be marginal. "We see usage increasing in a couple of weeks to balance out the tariff cuts." Revenues from roaming are calculated as a product of the number of minutes of usage and the call charge per minute.
