The first month of the current fiscal has seen robust increase in customs and excise duty collections. Provisional data available with the Finance Ministry shows customs revenues in April 2007 at Rs 7,221 crore. This represents a 27.4-per-cent increase over the customs duty revenues of Rs 5,667 crore recorded in the same month in the previous year. Excise duty collections have surged 11.4 per cent to Rs 6,640 crore in April 2007 as compared with Rs 5,967 crore in April 2006.
