Gujarat gets Rs 2,234 cr assistance from Nabard

The assistance provided by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) reached a new high during 2006-07 in Gujarat, which got the maximum assistance of Rs 2,234 crore among all the States.
Total sanctions under various activities witnessed a growth of 11.3 per cent, while disbursements recorded a growth of 19.4 per cent (Rs 2,177 crore) over the previous year for various activities to banks, the State Government and NGOs etc, Mr Bhawar Puri, Chief General Manager, Nabard (Gujarat Regional Office), said in a release here.
During 2006-07, under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), Gujarat got maximum assistance among all other States as sanctions and disbursements aggregated Rs 987.6 crore and Rs 879 crore, respectively.
Cumulatively, loans aggregating Rs 5,682 crore were sanctioned for 31,604 projects (including 24,174 check-dams) and so far the State has obtained a total loan of Rs 3,682 crore.
Under micro-credit, 15,655 self-help groups (SHGs) were formed during 2006-07 and 12,354 credit-linked with bank assistance of Rs 45 crore.
Altogether, 82,119 SHGs have been formed and 46,514 of them credit-linked with bank loans of Rs 169 crore so far.
