Our Bureau

Kolkata April 13 Even as the management of Hindustan Motors (HM) stayed away from a tripartite meeting convened by the West Bengal Government here today to resolve the imbroglio at the Uttarpara factory, the Government went ahead with the meeting with representatives of the trade unions attending.

Fresh Proposal

"The Labour Minister has urged us to hammer out a solution. We have responded to it." Mr Amitava Bhattacharyya, President, Sangrami Shramik Karmachari Union (SSKU), one of the five registered trade unions of HM, said.

"We have given a fresh proposal to develop a congenial atmosphere. We have asked the management to revoke suspension of some of the workers. We will then take the responsibility of ensuring that ingress and egress of materials is not hampered," Mr Bhattacharyya added.

On the other hand, Ms Soni Shrivastav, General Manager, Corporate Communications, C K Birla Group, told Business line: "There should be absolute peace before we can sit down and discuss issues. Our concern continues to be the safety and security of our employees," she added.

"Law and order should be restored first. Then we can look into issues relating to suspension of workers," she added.
