STAR profiling to spot high attrition risk candidates

Summit HR is working with companies in technology, call centre and BPO areas across the country.

Bangalore April 1 Talent fit is an ongoing battle for companies fighting to stay in the race. While talent shortage is a big problem, what companies are increasingly worrying about is talent fit. A wrong profile can lead to an early exit, thus upsetting the organisation applecart even further.

"Therefore it's essential to eliminate high-risk candidates early on in the recruitment process," says Mr Ranjan Sinha, Chairman, Summit HR Worldwide, a US-based HR services firm.

Currently, Summit India is working with 12 companies in India on a research project to map demographic factors of candidates, profile of the company, attitudinal and behavioural measurements of the candidates, executive management of the company and to isolate patterns that attempt to predict attrition risk.

The System for Talent Attraction Retention (STAR) does a psychometric profiling of candidates. It will incorporate socio-cultural factors of different countries and calibrate for company-specific profiles and cultures. This will help employers isolate high attrition risk candidates early in the selection process and help them manage their current pool for attrition risk by isolating and highlighting risk factors in employees.

For instance, with STAR, candidates will be profiled and bracketed under one of the three categories for the recruiting company: red for high risk, yellow for low risk and green for perfect fit. Therefore, what's red for one company can be green for another and perhaps yellow for a third organisation.

"This could be used for any candidate, but companies generally prefer to use the system for 0-6 years' experience profiles as attrition is highest here," says Mr Sinha.

Summit HR is working with companies in technology, call centres and BPO areas across the country.
