Education Info-Tech - Software Autodesk invests Rs 1 cr on design centre at IIT-M Our Bureau
Bangalore March 27 Autodesk, design software and digital solutions company, has announced an investment of Rs 1 crore to set up a design centre of excellence and a `Design Finishing School' at IIT Madras for engineering students from across the country. As part of the memorandum of understanding, IIT Madras and Autodesk will also undertake joint research projects and will conduct outreach programmes for the small to medium enterprise (SME) market to improve the design and engineering skills of professionals to make their companies globally more competitive. Autodesk will provide computing infrastructure, 3D design software including Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Alias Studio industrial design tools and will assist IIT Madras in developing design courseware and potentially new elective inter-disciplinary courses in areas of product design. Students at IIT Madras will also receive access to the global Autodesk Student Engineering and Design Community portal.
Design contest
Autodesk will also conduct a design contest for IIT Madras students to encourage the spirit of innovation. "In today's globalised world, design is the key to the growth of any economy that aspires to be competitive. Product innovation through design competency is the key market differentiator across major industrial sectors today. This MoU between IIT Madras and Autodesk is to help in developing innovative design skills among our students and to create a sustained pool of skilled manpower in the country. The two institutions will work together to proactively create training modules on latest design technologies and industry standards for the manufacturing SME community and conduct regular outreach programmes," said Professor M.S. Ananth, Director, IIT-Madras. "India needs a robust design ecosystem for developing a skilled community to capitalise on emerging industry opportunities. Autodesk's recent initiative is aimed at familiarising and educating India's student community with the latest 3D model-based designing technologies," said Mr Rajiv Nair, Regional Director, Autodesk India and SAARC region.
