BSNL-MTNL merger

I fully endorse the view in your editorial `ADC relief' (Business Line, March 24) that BSNL may be better off considering innovative steps such as disinvestment of equity to the public or merger with MTNL.

BSNL is no doubt a profit-making organisation, but in its functioning and business operations the overriding stress must be on creation and constant enhancement of value for the stakeholders. There is a pressing need to revamp BSNL's fixed line operations.

Today public sector banks give a lot of importance to corporate governance, creation of value for shareholders, improvement of profitability, etc. This strategy should be adopted with respect to BSNL and MTNL for deriving maximum advantage.
