Shell's centre of excellence in Bangalore

Bangalore Feb. 21 Shell, which had announced the setting up of a centre of excellence in India, on Wednesday said it has decided to locate it in Bangalore. The centre with an initial strength of 500 scientists and engineers, will have dedicated research and development facility with a focus on developing cutting edge technologies and process.

"Significant investments" will be made in the facility, said Mr Bob Frith, President, Shell Technology India. Mr Frith said the company was awaiting approval for its application of 40 acres of land in the city for the centre, which will be Shell's third after those in the Netherlands and Houston.

The centre will have 1,000 professionals in about three years. The centre was planning for collaborative ventures with Indian institutes.

Shell's flaghship `Smart Fields' project that integrates digital information technology with the latest drilling, seismic and reservoir monitoring techniques will provide energy more efficiently. The technology is being tried out in its project located field off the Brunei coast in South China.
