Hyderabad Feb. 18 JDA Software, provider of retail, supply chain and logistics solutions, is bullish on the retail growth opportunity in the country and sees the market rapidly expanding over 2-3 years, with large format store chains - both domestic and international - making inroads.

The company, which had very little presence in India a year ago, has now over 200 people. It has also added clientele following the acquisition of Manugistics, which has a development centre in Hyderabad.

Mr Rod Talbot, Regional Vice-resident, Asia Pacific, told Business Line that the acquisition of Manugistics for $211 million has provided JDA with a significant presence in India, across development, consultancy and support services.

Significantly, now both supply side and demand side aspects of retail and manufacturing get addressed.

Global support centre

Mr Abel Correa, Country Manager, JDA Software India, said that the company recently added a global support centre that would address local market requirements and other markets in the region and complement other centres globally.

JDA competes with the likes of Retek, which was since been acquired by Oracle and SAP.

The company currently employs about 1,600 people and has over 5,500 customers across 100 software solutions in manufacturing, logistics, retail and distribution segments.

Unlike traditional enterprise software vendors, JDA offers end-to-end solutions for retail segments, including consultancy.

Its clientele includes Wal-Mart, CarreFour and Ikea; in India, it works with clients such as Essar (mobile phone business) and recently signed up with Hertitage Foods for its retail growth plans.

For JDA, the Asia-Pacific contributes about 10 per cent of total revenues (estimated to be about $400 million this fiscal).
