Human Resources Genpact tool to test BPO candidates Archana Venkat
Called Genpact Language Advantage Decider (GLAD), the tool is a set of guidelines to manually evaluate the learn-ability skills of candidates applying for voice-based BPO jobs at the company. According to Ms Teena Ghai, Vice President-Communicative Skills Leader, candidates who failed the first level of recruitment tests will do a 30-minute written test evaluated using the GLAD tool. Those clearing this test would be hired and put through regular induction and technical training, said Ms Ghai. The test is designed to find out the innate learnability of a candidate, she said in a telephone conversation with Business Line. "Before using this tool, we would hire about 5 out of 100 candidates evaluated. But after using this tool we feel the number can increase to about 15 out of 100 candidates," she said. The tool has been developed in the US and is based on the evaluation system adopted by schools there to check for second language learnability among students, said Ms Ghai. Genpact has modified the tool to suit their requirements and the associated test focuses largely on English and creativity skills. The company plans to develop a software version of the tool by the first quarter of next fiscal so that it can be used across all its recruitment centres, said Ms Ghai.
