Education States - Tamil Nadu `Business excellence vital to maximise benefits' Our Correspondent
MR S. CHANDRAMOULI, General Manager-Operations, TAFE Ltd, Dindigul district, addressing a Business Line Club meeting organised by Department of Management Studies, The American College, in Madurai. G. Moorthy
He was addressing on `Business Excellence ` at a Business Line Club meeting organised by the Department of Management Studies, The American College (Autonomous), here on Wednesday. The concept of excellence in business has traversed many grounds. From quality control in the early periods to quality assurance during the journey and to lead from the front, setting the benchmarks for others to follow, at present. It is a constant strive to survive by doing things differently through innovative ways that contributeto better standards of the society at large. Today organisations need to work under a `triple bottomline approach', where they work, not only to earn profits but also have to take care of the employees and contribute to the larger benefits of the society, say, as in the case of reducing pollution, he said. Taking the working model of TAFE and explaining the process, he said that no business activity today is carried through entirely on one's own effort. The importance of supply chain and logistics has assumed significance.
Handholding
Handholding has become the established pattern in the execution of a task. As such, in upholding the vision and mission of an organisation, it has become necessary to make everyone involved become aware of responsibilities at each and every level both inside and outside the organisation, identify and fill the gaps in the efforts and constantly endeavour to understand, learn, appreciate, recognise and reward wherever necessary to keep the effort going. Not all can reach these standards at one and the same time. They need to plan and execute them over a period. To recognise these efforts and identify the units, industry certifications and awards are instituted to mark the excellence attained and standardised for others to follow, Mr Chandramouli said. Mr T. Murali, Regional General Manager, The Hindu, Madurai, and Prof. Ravikumar H. Joseph, Director, Department of Management Studies, were also present.
