Madurai Jan. 29 The Madurai District Consumer Product Stockists Association, in a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, has sought extension of time for submission of stock statement on inventory from December 31, 2006 to March 31.

At the Joint Council Meeting of the Department and trade associations held here recently, the association urged the Commissioner to set up a `VAT return collection counter' in the office to facilitate submission of returns by the traders without any hassle.

Meanwhile, at the meeting, the Madurai Oil And Oil Seeds Association sought extension of time for obtaining VAT certification by those with TNGST identification to February 28.

It had also sought refund of amount together with interest for the delay in payment for those who have won their cases on appeal by March 31.

Similarly, interest on deposits of traders under TNGST Act should be paid early, it said. The association also emphasised the need for opening of `VAT return collection centre' in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner to enable traders submit their returns at a single point.
