Radio/TV Variety - Entertainment & Leisure Marketing - Trends Old DD serials a big success online Meera Mohanty
The latter's 34 episodes released so far have been streamed half a million times, making it an "absolute blockbuster" for its online presenters, Rajshri.com. "It just goes to show that great content, even two decades old, can find a staggering response on the Internet," said Mr Rajjat A. Barjatya, Managing Director, Rajshri Media. A host of nostalgic surfers are out there looking for downloadable versions of Doordarshan's Hum Log, Nukkad and Buniyaad, said researcher Ms Amulya Gopalakrishnan. The rights of these programmes remain with the sponsors and they are busy licensing them out to portals. Going by the response to its current fare, Rajshri is tying up with a major broadcaster to bring its past and current fare online. Star TV has also brought its newer bag of K-soaps to its Internet portal, indya.com. With that, it is targeting the global, broadband-enabled South Asian audience. Rajshri is going even further by providing some of its serials with Spanish and French subtitles. What next? Webisodes specifically for portals.
