April- Jan direct tax collections up 41.74 pc

New Delhi Jan 25 The Centre's net direct tax collections have increased by 41.74 per cent in April 1-January 22 this fiscal to Rs 1,55,442 crore as compared to Rs 1,09,668 crore in the same period in the previous year.

While gross corporate tax collections for the period under review increased to Rs 1,18,183 crore (Rs 82,550 crore), personal income-tax collections surged to Rs 56,228 crore (Rs 44,215 crore).

Meanwhile, the income-tax department said on Thursday that it has detected tax evasion of over Rs 1,700 crore and seized undisclosed assets worth about Rs 228 crore in searches carried out during the current fiscal up to November 2006.
