ACC to boost cement capacity at Wadi unit

Hyderabad , Jan.19

Cement manufacturer ACC plans to enhance capacity at its Wadi plant in Gulbarga district of Karnataka, as part of its overall expansion plans to meet growing demand for the material in the country.

From the existing 4.6 million tonnes/year, the capacity would be increased to 5 million, while the overall installed capacity in the 11 existing units of ACC would be increased to 20 million tonnes in the next few years, according to Mr Arvind Pathak, Business Head for South & West Region.

Stating that the supply-demand situation for cement was evenly poised at present, Mr Pathak said prices have been suppressed for sometime now. Long-term pricing should be a better yardstick than short-time fluctuations, he felt.

Given expectations that the GDP (gross domestic product) would grow at 8 per cent and above, the cement industry would grow at least by 10 per cent. There would be a universal modification in the existing cement units of various companies to meet near-time demands, he said.

Customer-centric initiative

Mr Pathak was here to launch the company's `Help Centre', a customer-centric initiative. This is the 14th that ACC has launched across the country in the last year.

The Centre would help customers — whether individual, institutional or professional — to take informed decisions on building homes.
