M&M ranks 2nd in `most-trusted car co' study

Mumbai , Jan. 3

Mahindra & Mahindra has been ranked second in the `most trusted car company in India' study conducted by TNS.

M&M scored 127 points, seven points below the top ranking company (Maruti Udyog).

According to a release, the list is based on consumer ratings on corporate social responsibility survey conducted by TNS to gauge the public's perception of the "automotive industry in regards to corporate ethics, social responsibility, environmental policies, and philanthropic activities".

The report said that safety and environment were the most important issues facing the automotive industry and that companies that rate highly on these two parameters were seen to be the most trustworthy.

According to the study, Indian consumers were more concerned about issues such as auto companies contributing actively towards "social and economic development of their countries, especially for generating new jobs and improving the quality of life."

One of the major highlights of the study was that consumers were prepared to vote with their wallet with eight out of 10 indicating that they would refrain from purchasing a product from companies that failed to follow environment-friendly or ethical business practices.
