Telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has plans to strengthen its presence in the mobile telephone and broadband markets in India.

Addressing a press conference in the city, Mr A.K. Sinha, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), said the State-owned company would provide two crore mobile phone connections every year for the next three years. In broadband, the company would significantly expand its coverage over the next year, he added.

BSNL, which currently offers broadband services in 597 towns, will offer such services in over 1,000 towns and 20,000 villages. The company, at present, has capacity for one million broadband subscribers and proposes to add capacity for another five million subscribers, of which 1.84 million lines will be in rural areas.

The company has also announced new tariffs and enhanced download limits for its broadband services. Also on the cards are online gaming services from the company.

For BSNL customers in Kerala, the company plans to introduce more value-added services in both the landline and mobile phone segments. It has launched personalised ring back tones for its post-paid mobile customers in Kerala and has also launched missed call alert services for its mobile phone customers.
