Hyderabad , Dec 12 GN Mobile, a 263-million-euro European wireless and corded devices company, plans to flood the Indian mobile phone and consumer applications markets with more than a dozen new products during 2007. Part of the Denmark-based GN Netcom Group, the company has firmed up plans to launch a product a month of its brand of audio products - Jabra - from January. The company specialises in integrating Bluetooth devices, which enable users to communicate or listen to music without touching their mobile phones or audio players. GN Mobile will end 2006 with the launch of a below Rs 2,000 Bluetooth-enabled headset for the Jabra BT135 in the domestic market. "It is the best quality and cheapest among branded products in the similar class," said Mr Vincent Pena, Regional Managing Director (Emerging Markets) of GN Netcom. Around Christmas time, the company will offer an exclusive Bluetooth-enabled headset product in partnership with Swarovski (Rs 4,000 plus), especially targeted at fashion-conscious women and high-end customers, he told newspersons.
Powered by rechargeable battery, these `over-the-ear wearing' lightweight products give GN Mobile 35 per cent of the global Bluetooth product market.
On the decision to launch in India now, Mr Pena said that the Bluetooth-enabled devices market was small but expected to grow dramatically in the country.
"We entered India 18 months ago in the metros, but we are still weak."
He added that a growth strategy and a brand building exercise have been put in place.
The company has no immediate plans for investment but will open an office in Mumbai and hire people. It will also establish marketing tie-ups.
Phones with music functions, speakerphones, etc., all Bluetooth-enabled, will the focus of GN Mobile in the Asian market. The company has two manufacturing units in China now, Mr Pena said.
GN Netcom has a long history of being in the medical field too, especially hearing aid products - hence, the confidence in providing headsets that are safe, he said. The company is hoping to end calendar 2006 with revenues of 1.2 billion euros.
