TNT India on a hiring drive

Anjali Prayag

Bangalore , Dec. 12

TNT Express India's employee pool is expanding rapidly. A jump from 580 employees to 2600 in less than one year is surely challenging for TNT's HR division.

"The challenge now is to recruit, retain and integrate these employees," says Mr Rajkumar Arul, National HRD Manager, TNT India Pvt Ltd. By 2007 end, the company intends to add another 500 employees for their road and air business put together.

TNT Express, which was operating in the international express business, set foot in the domestic business early this year. At the same time, the company acquired Speedage, a road business company with 1400 employees. With the IT and ITeS sectors combing campuses and industry for young talent, sectors such as supply-chain and logistics are looking at alternate routes to recruit and retain human capital.

TNT has decided to find a solution internally. "We find that grooming talent from within the organisation is the best way to retain employees," says Mr Arul.

About 70 per cent of TNT managers are promoted from within the organisation. TNT has also initiated other HR initiatives such as TNT Sales Academy for its sales force, leadership programme for second line managers and incentivised compensation for customer-facing staff.

Noida-based Amity Business School recently conferred the company with an HR Excellence Award.
