Kinfra to set up animation school

The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) will set up an animation school in the State, said the Kerala Industries Minister Mr Elamaram Kareem.

Delivering a special address at the inaugural session of a one-day seminar on animation, gaming and visual effects held here, he said the proposed animation school would be set up to meet international standards. Kerala is a future destination for the animation industry and the State Government is committed to providing a launch pad for the animation sector, he added.

As part of its efforts to create infrastructure for the animation industry, Kinfra is establishing the country's first special economic zone for the animation and gaming industry at the Kinfra Film and Video Park in Thiruvananthapuram, he pointed out. The Central Government has already approved the creation of the animation SEZ. To be located on 25 acres of land, the SEZ will offers facilities such as animation studio modules, motion capture laboratory and so on, he added.

Ties up with Toonz

During the inaugural session of the seminar, Kinfra and Toonz Animation India Pvt Ltd also signed a memorandum of understanding. According to the MoU, Toonz will set up its own campus in the SEZ.

The Toonz campus will house the company's animation production facilities and academy division.

The seminar on animation, gaming and visual effects was organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and supported by Kinfra.
