Kolkata , Nov. 25 Tata Motors' Managing Director, Mr Ravi Kant, reiterated on Saturday that the proposed small car of the companywould roll out of the Singur factory in West Bengal by 2008, as scheduled. He expected that land for the proposed project would be handed over to the company within the next few weeks. Speaking to newspersons here on Saturday, Mr Ravi Kant, said that he was happy with the progress of land acquisition at Singur by the State Government and expressed hope that the plant would come up here even as he admitted that a few other State Governments too were keen to have the project come up in their respective States. He said the proposed Singur plant of Tata Motors for small cars would revolutionise the automobile industry in India and mark a paradigm shift in the economy of the country. He said the automobile industry in India contributes to 4.8 per cent of the country's GDP compared with 12 per cent in Canada. He felt the $ 2000-car from the Singur factory would mark a watershed in the global automobile industry. The younger generation with disposable income can afford the small car, which has been designed especially for this country in collaboration with some MNCs. In this context, he cited the enormous success of Tata Motors' `Ace', the one-tonner mini truck, some 30,000 units of which were sold last year.
