`Welding sector poised to grow'

The Indian Institute of Welding today inaugurated a three-day seminar on `Advances in Joining Technology for Quality and Competitiveness', according to a release. The Indian welding industry is poised to grow over the next five years thanks to projects worth $45 billion in sectors such as steel production, oil refinery, power generation, automobile and infrastructure, the release said.

The seminar has been organised to help welding companies tap this market through competitive practices and adherence to quality standards.

Hosted at the Chennai Trade Centre, the seminar will address issues such as friction stir, electron beam and laser welding processes, challenges and advances in heavy fabrication and repair welding.Technical paper presentations, a special session addressing engineering students and an exhibition featuring latest machinery and products in the welding industry (India and abroad) will be part of the event, the release said.
