The long range Agni-III missile, whose maiden test flight on July 9 failed, will now be test fired again from the Wheeler Island off the Bhubaneswar coast in early 2007.

"The causes for the `failure' of the July 9 flight have been thoroughly studied, understood and we are confident of going ahead with the second launch," said Dr Avinash Chander, Director of the Advanced Systems Laboratory.

A detailed analysis by experts has shown that more than 70 per cent of the parameters were successful in the Agni-III flight first flight, including launch system, separation stage and basic design. The minor failures have been reproduced and simulated on ground situation, he said.

During 2007-08, a couple of more Agni-III tests would be lined up, Dr Chander said. Agni-III is expected to reach distances of 3,000 to 3,500 km.
