Hyderabad , Nov. 15

Six e-governance projects of Andhra Pradesh are among the leading contenders for this year's CSI (Computer Society of India)-Nihilent e-governance Awards. New Delhi follows with 4, and Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka have 3 each.

The AP projects are AP Online, Transport Dept., e-Procurement, e-Sagu, Hyderabad First and Service Delivery through Card. The final presentation by each representative to the panel was held at DMS, IIT Delhi, early this month.

The panel of judges included Mr S.P. Singh, Senior Director, Ministry of Information Technology; Prof. M.P. Gupta, IIT Delhi; Dr Ashok Agarwal, Convener of the awards and Director, ACS Technologies.

Dr Agarwal in a statement said "e-governance initiatives taken by various State Governments are good, and we are beginning to see a significant impact on the day-to-day life of ordinary citizens both in urban as well as rural areas.

The CSI Nihilent e-governance Awards are about recognising and appreciating the successful efforts of various organisations in achieving good governance using ICT."

The CSI received over 100 entries this year. After short-listing the projects, a team of experts visited the sites to assess the project implementation and the impact on the people benefited by such projects.

The final awards function will be held on November 24, 2006, at Science City, Kolkata, during the annual convention of the CSI.

The CSI is the largest association of IT professionals in India, with over 30,000 members.
