IOC's Gujarat refinery starts Euro-III petrol production

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd's (IndianOil) Gujarat refinery has commenced production of Euro-III grade motor spirit product.

"The motor spirit produced by the Motor Spirit Quality Upgradation (MSQU) unit shall meet the Euro-III standards as specified in the Auto Fuel Policy of the Union Government. The MSQU project has successfully been commissioned at Gujarat Refinery," a company statement said.

With the commissioning of this project, IndianOil would now be catering to the markets of Surat and Ahmedabad with improved quality of the auto-fuel, which will help reduce vehicular pollution in these cities, the company said.

Mr S. Behuria, Chairman, IndianOil, said that the company has drawn up a plan of Rs 40,000 crore in refinery and petrochemicals business. The product streams from existing IndianOil refineries are being used to achieve better utilisation of hydrocarbon value chain.

Mr B.N. Bankapur, Director (Refineries), highlighted the synergy between the refinery team and its project partners such as EIL, UOP, UHDE, & L&T Petron. The project for the Gujarat refinery has been designed to produce 850 TMT of motor spirit at a cost of Rs 450 crore.
