Retailing Industry & Economy - Events LIBA opens retail management centre Our Bureau
Chennai , Nov. 6 Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) inaugurated the Centre for Retail Management at the two-day symposium, Insight '06, held here recently. Inaugurating the centre, Mr Raghu Pillai, President and Chief Executive, Retail Operations and Strategy, Reliance Retail, congratulated LIBA for its continued effort in driving excellence. Speaking on Indian retailing and entry of global giants into the Indian market, he said, "Organised retail does not mean just a glitzy and well-lit showroom on high streets. "In my opinion any organisation that efficiently leverages the back-end supply chain to offer a commercially viable and valuable proposition to the consumer is organised. It could even be 100 pushcarts selling apples at different locations of the city." Reiterating the need for policy framing to enable the growth of organised retail in India, Mr Pillai said, "India is not a poor country. It's a rich country with a lot of poor people, and it is not a burden but a good opportunity for any pioneering organisation." Dr P. Christie, Director, LIBA, appreciated the faculty and students for their involvement in organising the national-level symposium, which helped students enrich their knowledge by interacting with many industry professionals.
