Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 15

State Bank of Travancore (SBT) has launched a scheme called `Rabbit Plus' for financing rabbit breeders in Alappuzha district. The scheme is being extended through a non-governmental organisation, Alappuzha Rabbit Breeders Association, and assisted by the Animal Husbandry Department of the State Government.

The scheme envisages providing rural employment of 10 lakh mandays by financing 500 groups (approximately 2,500 families) in three years, according to a statement from the bank. The production of rabbit meat by the groups supported by the scheme is projected at 2,250 tonnes a year.
