`MBAs must work with multi-functional personality'

Our Bureau

MR P.B. SAMPATH, Director and Secretary, TAFE Ltd.

Chennai , Sept. 25

"MBAs are a nice bunch of people, they know how to put things across, have good communication skills and good habits, but they do not stay back. They do not have the commitment to the employer," said Mr P.B. Sampath, Director and Secretary, TAFE Ltd, to the students of the Department of Management Studies, BSA Crescent Engineering College, after inaugurating the society for management studies (SMS).

He was addressing the students in a programme under the aegis of Business Line club. He called the above as the Churchill theorem - 1: Demonstrate commitment.

"You have to work with multi-functional personality. You have to work with some who may not have education like yours and privileged people have an obligation to help the under privileged," he added.

"Do not think that I have a PG degree, and therefore do not need to learn. You will become outdated. Keep learning. Put your brain in learning mode. Whatever you know is only one part of what you need/should know. Never lose your independence of thought," advised Mr Sampath, calling this Churchill theorem - II: Think and learn continuously.

The Churchill-III theorem is willingness to change — The rate of change is tremendous. "Technology has changed and if I do not change or keep pace with technology, I have no place. I have to learn to change because of necessity. Adapting to this change is a must."

"In business, you need to compromise, as what you think right may not be right for the company. You will have to make compromises for success in business environment. But you must know the depth of compromise. Do not compromise your esteem. But kill your ego. This is Churchill theorem- IV: Abide by ethics," he said.

Others present were Dr V.M. Periasamy, Principal, Mr T.L.V. Subramanian, HoD - MBA Dept, Ms Yasmeen Arif, Faculty Co-ordinator-SMS.
