Outsourcing Info-Tech - Announcements Marlabs to invest $5 m in India expansion V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , Aug. 15 Marlabs Inc, IT services provider, has sewn up India expansion plans that will see the company investing $5 million during the year and the induction of about 400 people into the legal process outsourcing (LPO) space. The US-based Marlabs Inc, which has a development-cum-support centre in India, with over 840 people globally, 240 in India, plans to recruit about 400 people in India, that would include a legal process outsourcing centre, to offer services for US enterprises. The General Manager of Marlabs, Mr Srinivas Rajagopal, told Business Line recently that the company had forayed into LPO and planned to grow this to over 500 people offering services of litigation support, document and claims management. The company recently established a dedicated LPO centre in Bangalore that would principally provide decision support services to its US customers. "The LPO as a distinct stream is gaining momentum in India, but it is not even a drop in the ocean. It is estimated that about 12,000 people are currently engaged in this area in the county. But given the advantages the LPO provides for outsourcers, this will become yet another important business for offshoring employing about 80,000 people by 2015," he said. Referring to the issue of secrecy in the LPO space, Mr Rajagopal said there had been a lot of attention to secrecy of matter and conflict of interest issues, as the work being outsourced related to live court cases which cost large amounts of money. The LPO industry will always have to live with this heightened sense of security as even a minor lapse can prove to be damaging to business relationship with clients. Mr Rajagopal said most of the advanced document and transcription services that can be handled away from the court room, litigation support covering legal research, preparation of pleadings, docketing, proof reading, transcription of recording and marketing are set to witness growth.
