Stock Markets Markets - Stocks Columns - Ear to the ground
Domestic passenger vehicles, including utility vehicles, reported good demand, while motorcycle sales stayed reasonable, thanks to what was posted by the likes of Bajaj Auto. Both Hero Honda and TVS, two key players, saw a modest rise in sales. However, passenger car leader Maruti recorded lower than expected numbers in July, mainly on the back of lower sales of sedans and lower exports. The B-segment saw a 15-per cent y-o-y rise in volumes (at over 29,000 units) due to better contribution by Swift and Alto. Analysts now expect Maruti to clock higher sales, courtesy the new-look Wagon R Duo.
