Sugar exports jump to Rs 169 cr in 2005-06

Sakthi Sugars' export of sugar during the financial year ended June 30, 2006, has worked out to 8,879 tonnes valued at Rs 169 crore, compared to 750 tonnes worth Rs 9.78 crore in the previous year.

The sugar export sale has constituted roughly 20 per cent of its total sale income of Rs 877 crore achieved for the financial year (Rs 619 crore net sale in the previous year).

The unaudited financial results of the company released by the Managing Director at a press conference on Saturday also revealed that the company's net sales during the fourth quarter ended June 30, 2006, stood at Rs 258 crore (Rs 189 crore), of which the value of sugar exportedworked out to Rs 115 crore or 44.7 per cent of the net sales.

During the quarter, the company's sugar plants crushed 8.49 tonnes of sugarcane (3.27 lakh tonnes).
