Agri-Biz & Commodities - Coconut & Copra
Clarification

With reference to the photograph with the heading `SAFTA impact" which appeared in these columns on July 8, the Coconut Development Board's Chief Development Office, Mr Thomas Mathew M., clarifies that the import duty on coconut has not been reduced to 20 per cent as reported.

The agreement on SAFTA says the trade liberalisation programme and tariff reduction will not apply to the tariff lines included in the `Sensitive list". Coconut and coconut products, including copra, coconut oil, desiccated coconut power and other coconut products are included in the sensitive list and are protected from tariff reduction.
