Poly Medicure applies for 8 new patents

New Delhi , July 13

Poly Medicure Ltd, manufacturers of medical devices and disposables under the brand, POLYMED, on Wednesday announced its application for 8 new patents and two USFDA (Food and Drug Administration) approvals for its new range of safety syringes and safety blood collection holders.

Mr Himanshu Baid, Managing Director, Poly Medicure Ltd, said: "In our latest safety syringe, the needle retracts back in the plunger and gets locked after administering the shot so that it does not remain exposed after use. This is done by activation of the spring in the device. The most important feature is that it cannot be reused, preventing needle stick injuries. The same concept has been used for blood collection holders. The only difference being that there is no spring here for activation. The activation is done manually."

The total turnover of the company for 2005-06 was Rs 73 crore, which is growing at a rate of 40 per cent annually, compared to the industry growth rate of 10-15 per cent. The company is also looking at expanding its present capacity of manufacturing medical disposables from 130 million to 180 million with an investment of Rs 25 crore to cater to the burgeoning demand in the domestic and international market.
