Bangalore, July 5

ISRO announced July 10 as the date to launch Insat-4C, the first operational communications satellite to be flown from homeground. The 2.18-tonne 4C carries 12 Ku-band transponders meant for broadcasting and DTH services. It will be flown on the indigenous GSLV-02, from the new second launch pad at 4.30 pm from the Sriharikota launch pad, it said.

A rehearsal or mission readiness review is planned on July 6, to be followed by a meeting of the Launch Authorisation Board, which will clear the launch. The countdown will begin in the morning of July 9 as well as the filling of the liquid propellant stages. 4C was transported to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in early June and has been placed on the launcher. In the coming days, the two systems are to be checked further.
