Chennai , June 15

Tata Teleservices Ltd's public call operator (PCO) services in India is clocking a revenue growth of 8 to 10 per cent per annum, according to Mr Vikas Shah, Vice-President and National Business Head, Access Business Unit, Tata Teleservices Ltd.

Speaking at the launch of the company's PCO loyalty programme for 2006-07, he told the press that in Tamil Nadu there are about 80,000 PCO operators using Tata Indicom telephones, out of an overall PCO operator base of 3 lakh.

He said that the PCO loyalty programme for 2005-06 helped drive this growth in terms of revenue in flow. The company gave away prizes worth Rs 60 lakh to loyal PCO operators as part of this programme. The prizes were allocated according to the number of points earned by each operator.

The budget for the prizes were allocated as a percentage of the total revenues, said Mr Shah.

Speaking about Tata Teleservices' plans for the coming fiscal, he said that the company would focus on rural telephony, since the urban tele-density is close to saturation point. He said that while the telecom business in class A and B cities was seeing a growth of 10 per cent per annum, class C and D cities were seeing a growth of 20 to 25 per cent
