Corporate Disputes Industry & Economy - Radio/TV Star not to give DTH signals till July Our Bureau
New Delhi , May 29 Star India has given an undertaking to the Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), that it will not give signals to any other DTH platform till July 3, 2006. The move comes after the Zee Group-promoted ASC Enterprises filed a petition with the telecom tribunal against Star TV for not supplying signals of its `Bouqet One' channels. ASC had contended that if during June any competitor starts DTH system and it is deprived of the signals from Star then it would stand to lose its business. In response the counsel for Star India gave an undertaking that it would not give signals to any other DTH operator. Following the undertaking from Star India, the TDSAT said that it did not find any need to make any further order in this regard. TDSAT has asked Star India to file a reply to the petition filed by ASC within three weeks' time. ASC had applied for subscription of Star's Bouquet One channels. However, Star did not reply within the mandatory 30 days of the request as per the norms fixed by the TRAI. Subsequently, the ZEE company approached the TDSAT seeking an order directing Star to provide signals of Bouquet One channels and declare Star a defaulter of TRAI's order. TDSAT has fixed July 3 for the next hearing.
