Severe shortage of skilled manpower is glaring at the 300 and odd engineering fabrication units functioning at Tiruchi.

According to the President, BHEL Small Scale Industries Association (BHELSSIA) Mr Rajappa Rajkumar, with the power plant equipment sector poised for major growth over the next few years, more workers are needed for shop floor works.

Efforts have been taken to organise campus interviews in some of the local industrial training institutes and polytechnics. Yet, the supply seemed to fall far short of the demand.

The Association has plans to talent scouting drive in association with the District Employment Office, the sources added.
