Indian agriculture

This is with reference to "Agriculture: Flowering China, withering India," (Business Line, April 25).

More such articles on the agriculture are welcome. The Indian farmer requires all the support he can get. We can certainly manage without software. But can we manage without food?

Importing food is not the solution when we have been gifted with such natural resources.

But we need more men like Dr Verghese Kurien to make this happen.

As has been pointed out by the author, there has to be a paradigm shift if India is to find itself on the world agriculture map.

To make this happen, people with commitment are required at the top.

As rightly pointed out, the key to success in agriculture will be the agro technology extension agents, who work with the farmers on the field employing a bottom-up approach.
