Self-employment

This is with reference to, "Are we killing the self-employed?" (Business Line, April 20): I often chat with fruit vendors. And they have fascinating stories to tell. Many of them are college graduates. They become middle class the moment they get into business. The tender-coconut vendor near my house notches up daily sales of Rs 1,200.

I agree with the author that self-employment is the future, at least till 2025, when the jobs will exceed the entrants to labour force.
