Software Government - E-Governance CMC involved in many e-Governance initiatives Our Bureau
Chennai , April 14 Computerising VAT, automating real estate records, and providing computerised solutions for police stations - these are some of the e-Governance initiatives that CMC Ltd, an IT solutions and services provider and a subsidiary of TCS, is involved in at the moment. Mr R. Ramanan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, CMC, told presspersonsthat the company recently developed a biometric application for Nasscom called the national skills registry, where employees across India in IT-related fields would have fingerprinted identification and records. As for the computerisation of VAT, he said the service was under implementation in Kerala, and would be rolled out in other States soon. The land record automation services will soon be operational in Jharkhand. The versatile computerised operations for police stations (VCOPS) is a solution by which an entire police case can be put in computerised records from the registration of the crime to the closure of the case. It is under implementation in Andhra Pradesh. Treasury management is another area the company is involved in, which is operational in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa. The company's clients for these e-governance solutions include foreign countries as well. The criminal fingerprinting system, for example, is used in Mauritius, while Tanzania has shown interest in the VCOPS solution.
