Hero Honda says strike won't impact profitability

Our Bureau

New Delhi , April 14

Hero Honda Motors on Friday said it plans to step up production to make up for the disruption at its plant caused by a strike of contract labourers.

"Hero Honda aims to make up the production loss by stepping up production from 5,800 units per day to 6,500 units per day, post commencement of operations at its Gurgaon plant," the company said in a statement. Before the strike, the plant had been producing 5,800 units per day against its capacity of 6,500 units a day. The company said the strike would not affect availability of products and that dealers have "sufficient stocks." The "additional production of 700 units per day will enable the company to cover up the production loss from the current strike in a short period of time," Hero Honda said. "Therefore the strike will not impact the company's annual profitability or production targets."

Meanwhile, representative of the contract workers said that meetings are being held with the management and an early resolution seems likely.
