IICT to hold meet on pharma R&D next month

THE INDIAN Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), in association with Kasyap Technologies, would organise a three-day conference here next month to discuss opportunities in pharmaceutical research and development.
The Focus India-2006 on `Pharmaceutical Research and Development Efficiencies - Integrating Global Strategic Partnerships' is expected to attract representatives from Pfizer, USFDA, Dr Reddy's, Ranbaxy and Matrix Laboratories. The meet would begin on March 15 at the Ramoji Film City.
Announcing this here at a press conference, Dr J.S. Yadav, Director of IICT, and Mr J.S.R. Durga Prasad, Chairman of Kasyap Technologies, said the conference was aimed at presenting the Indian drug discovery research and development capabilities to the international community.
Kasyap Technologies is a Hyderabad-based life sciences research company.
Dr Yadav said Indian companies had a huge opportunity with the global pharma companies were eyeing Indian companies for their R&D outsourcing needs.
The conference would have simultaneous tracks including India Advantage Forum, Partnership Table, Discovery Biology and Discovery Chemistry.
Meanwhile, IICT officials said the institute was in the process of selling six patents that included one to a German company. "Modalities have been finalised. We will sign a pact next month," they said. These patents were in the field of drug discovery, including anti-cancer molecules.
