Telecommunications 'Mobile growth in India faster than in China' Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 1 THE mobile growth rate in India is better than that of China, according to the TRAI , when compared to the subscriber growth levels in the initial years in the two countries. TRAI said that though China was ahead of India by seven years by launching its first cellular network in 1988, India caught up with China in terms of new cellular subscribers being added every month. "China has been adding 4-5 million mobile subscribers a month in the last five years. India has also achieved this landmark in December 2005 when the mobile subscribers addition reached around 4.5 million in a single month for the first time since the launch of mobile services in 1995. Thus, India has really caught up with China in mobile growth. Rather, the performance of Indian mobile sector is better than China if we compare the first 11 years of India," TRAI said. TRAI said that even with respect to handset sales, India is catching up fast with China.
