Marginal rise in Tata Chem PAT

TATA Chemicals Ltd on Tuesday reported a 1.26 per cent rise in profit after tax for the quarter ended December 31, 2005, to Rs 97.81 crore, from the previous corresponding Rs 96.59 crore.
Net sales/income from operations were up 21.05 per cent to Rs 1,257.88 crore (Rs 1,039.14 crore). The company's profit from operations was higher by 30.82 per cent at Rs 170.58 crore (Rs 130.39 crore). However, other income was lower at Rs 10.75 crore (Rs 29.46 crore) and interest on refunds of tax was nil (Rs 22.23 crore).
For the nine-month period, Tata Chemicals reported a 25.8-per cent gain in profit after tax to Rs 288.61 crore (Rs 229.42 crore) on a 20.79 per cent increase in net sales/ income from operations to Rs 2,764.39 crore (Rs 2,288.58 crore).
The company has made an open offer for acquiring the balance 36.5 per cent of the shares of Brunner Mond Group, an official statement said. During the quarter, Tata Chemicals had acquired 63.5 per cent equity stake in BMGL for Rs 508 crore.
Shares of Tata Chemicals ended nearly unchanged at Rs 242.55 on the BSE.
