Airports revamp bids to be opened tomorrow

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 25

THE Government will on Friday open the financial bids shortlisted for the modernisation and restructuring of Delhi and Mumbai airports.

Official sources said the government would consider four bidders for the two airports. These are likely to be the bids submitted by GMR, the Reliance Group led by Mr Anil Ambani, GVK and D.S. Group. The Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel has maintained that the process for award of contract for the modernisation of the two airports will be completed by January 31.

Sources indicated that if one group turns out to be the highest bidder in both projects, it would be given the first right of refusal for one project. In such a situation, the second highest financial bidder would be asked either to match the highest bidder or put in a higher bid. This is significant as the government was stipulating that only one project would be awarded to a bidder.

When the process started in September last year, the government received six bids from top-notch industrial houses for the Mumbai airport and five for the Delhi airport.
