Tracking vendors

It is a well-established fact that the seemingly "poor" vendors/traders such as panwallahs, pav-wada sellers, dosa/idli/wada sellers, railway stall owners, vegetable vendors, carpenters, masons, and so on are actually earning in several lakhs (and sometimes, in crores!) of rupees each year. Further, these "lakhpatis" and "crorepatis" do not always pay taxes.

To increase revenue, the Finance Minister must instruct the various tax authorities to survey every such vendors/traders in the unorganised sector.

The State governments and Municipalities too should take a serious lead in this matter.

It should be made statutory that every such vendor/trader (whether licensed or otherwise) should be asked to register with the Municipal/State authorities. And, on lines similar to PAN card, an ID card may be issued to them.
