Shipping Meet convened to sort out trailer operators' woes Our Bureau
Kochi , Jan. 6 INDIA Gateway Terminal is convening a meeting next week between trailer operators, port authorities and Customs house agents to sort out the difficulties faced by trailer operators in the wake of the introduction of pre-stage facility in the container terminal. A decision to this effect comes in the wake of the strike notice issued by the Kerala State Motor Thozhilali Union (KSMTU) on January 9 threatening to stop trailer operations in the port. A release from KSMTU said that the newly introduced pre-stage facility is causing problems to the trailer crew, as they had to wait for long hours in the area. The union also demanded creation of proper resting place and canteen facilities on the premises. Senior IGT officials said that they were not directly involved in the issue as it concerns customs house agents and trailer operators. However, the IGT has decided to convene a joint meeting with all concerned parties to study the problems faced by the trailer operators and find out an amicable solution, the officials added.
