THE Karnataka Government has promised all facilities to the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen, if it plans to set up a plant in Karnataka.
At a press conference here on Thursday, the Karnataka Minister for Finance and Industries, Mr P.G.R. Sindhia, discussed the Volkswagen team's Mangalore visit in search of a site for its plant in the country. He said, "It is premature on my part to say anything on the company's plans. The Volkswagen team has visited four places Bangalore, Mysore, Hassan and Mangalore in Karnataka. They are looking for land in other areas also."
Stating that the team has held two rounds of discussions with the State Government, he said that the Government has assured the company of providing the facilities, which, it has offered to other automobile companies such as Toyota and Volvo.
"However, the final decision on the selection of a site for the establishment of the manufacturing unit rests with the company. The ball is in the company's court," Mr Sindhia said.
On December 16, the Volkswagen team visited New Mangalore Port and inspected a land at Mudipu in Mangalore taluk. The team was shown around 1,000 acres of land at Mudipu, comprising three villages Ira, Balepuni and Kurnad. The company needs around 400 acres of land for its unit in the country.
